Projects

In the 2110 class, two activities, or course projects, will be accomplished during the semester. The projects consist of:

  • Writing a paper concerning Poverty

  • Researching and creating a brochure concerning Bullying


Poverty Paper

For this paper, you will research and write about Poverty and how it affects school-age children and teachers.

Please begin with a title. You may use one of your questions, or be more creative. Make sure, though, that your title is informative (i.e., it tells the reader where you are going). The paper itself can be written as an essay answering some of the questions you have chosen below for your paper.

Body of the Paper

Choose some of these questions below to write about in your paper. Keep in mind that the paper must be two (2) pages in length. Choose as many questions as you need. The choice is yours. However, you MUST include the question(s) you selected to write about at the beginning of the paragraph. For example, your first question is:

What is poverty? Then, write your paragraph that would answer the question.

1)     What is poverty?

2)     Why do so many people live below the poverty line?

3)     What kind of poverty exists in your country?

4)     What do you think living below the poverty line is like?

5)     Is it possible for the world to make poverty disappear?

6)     Aristotle said: "Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime." What do you think?

7)     Why does poverty exist in rich countries like the USA?

8)    Do you think there’d be no wars if there was no poverty?

9)    What springs to mind when you hear the word ‘poverty’?

10)  Is poverty different in rich countries than in poor ones?

11)  Do you do anything to help reduce poverty?

12)  What do you think a poverty trap is and is it easy for people to escape it?

13)  How would the world be different if there was no poverty?

14)  What are the causes of poverty?

 

Bullying Issue Brochure

For this project, you will create a brochure that describes the current Bullying/Cyber Bullying issue. You can also use the software program of choice to create the brochure. In the past, Microsoft Word and Publisher have worked well. In both programs, you will find numerous templates for creating a brochure and more templates are available by searching online. Some examples of good brochures are included in the D2L content area.

Instructions

Research your topic and include the following information somewhere in the brochure:

  • Provide an overview of Bullying and Cyberbullying. Include information such as “how widespread is Bullying?” etc.

  • Describe the effects of Bullying.

  • Describe the causes of Bullying.

  • Describe some strategies that Teachers can use to reduce Bullying.

  • Describe some strategies the Schools can use to reduce Bullying.

  • Include at least two graphics or images that are related to the bullying issue.

  • List at least three sources for additional information concerning this issue.

The quality of the information that you provide, along with your creativity, will determine the grade. You need to include at least 3-5 references (in addition to the information used for the text in your brochure) that are integrated into the brochure. The brochure should be printed on a single piece of paper that can be folded to create an attractive brochure. The information should be inviting to read and should be written so that someone unfamiliar with Bullying should be able to understand the cause and effects of Bullying. The reader should be able to use the brochure to access more information about the topic if so desired.
